Learn to Liaise at MLA ’18!

Health information professionals in academic libraries and in health care facilities spend much of their time collaborating and communicating with faculty, clinicians, and other professionals. There are over eighty health professions! Each has unique standards and cultures of practice. The Learning to Liaise with Health Professions course will help you connect effectively with every type of health professional you encounter.

David Nolfi, Gumberg Library, Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA, my co-instructor, and I have been working as liaison librarians at our different institutions over the last several years. We have a lot of on-the-ground tips and experience to share with you. We will help you get a solid background in the history and evolution of health professions; learn about outreach, instruction, and collections activities you can adopt; and give you an opportunity to develop a plan for applying your learning to your institution. You will leave with clear next steps and goals on how to liaise effectively with the types of professionals you encounter at your workplace.
