Follow Up to the MLA Annual Meeting

Now that you have arrived home or finished listening to MLA Annual Meeting activities, here is a suggested to-do list:

  • Settle back into your “regular” routine of work, extracurricular activities, and home.
  • Try out your new pearls of wisdom -- a chair yoga move, an online searching tip, advice from a colleague, or a new technique you learned in a paper, lightning talk, or from a poster.
  • Review the business cards you collected from vendors or colleagues and send a follow-up email or make a phone call.
  • Decide to be more active in your favorite MLA Caucus.
  • Mark your calendar to listen to Amy Blevin’s Presidential Address on June 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., central time.
  • Look again at the upcoming MLA CE offerings and certificate programs.
  • If you have not already, find a mentor that best suits your interests, whether long-distance or closer to home.
  • Be on the lookout for announcements and deadlines to find a grant or scholarship for yourself or put into action your nomination of someone deserving of an MLA award.
  • Most MLA Chapter Annual Meetings are in the Fall. Join the group. Jump on a committee. Plan to attend.
  • Make plans at your Library or local chapter to have an MLA 125th Anniversary party.

And last but not least, let's look forward to MLA '24 in Portland, Oregon where we will close our 125th Anniversary year.
