From my view in the newbie section, MLA’19 was all about the connections. Here are some do’s I learned for connecting at the conference.
- DO participate in Colleague Connection.
- A mentor can provide valuable insights into MLA and librarianship.
- DO attend the New Members/First-Time Attendees Breakfast.
- Get fueled for the day with food, fun, and fellowship.
- DO share a room (if it makes sense for you).
- I answered a roommate request on my regional chapter’s email list and got to know a colleague from a neighboring state.
- DO say hello and introduce yourself.
- Wonderful conversations can occur when you least expect them.
- DO check in with former colleagues.
- This is a great way to catch up with people you don’t often see.
- DO attend the library school reunion.
- Reconnect with your school, learn what’s new, and meet faculty and other alumni.
- DO check out the Networking Event.
- I had dinner with a table full of interesting people I had just met.
