Until late October 2021, both the state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans had a mask mandate. When the mandate was lifted, it was stipulated that masks “should still be worn in private businesses and workplaces which require them.” Masks are still required in all educational and medical facilities as well as on all public transportation.
In New Orleans, proof of vaccination or negative PCR, molecular, or antigen test are required at all indoor gatherings, which includes eating in restaurants. Louisiana has an app for residents which makes showing our vaccine card easy, but photos of your card or the physical card are also accepted. The vaccine mandate will stay in place at least through Mardi Gras (March 1, 2022) according to the city communications director.
New Orleans and the State of Louisiana have not always been in sync when it comes to COVID precautions, so it is best to check both for state and municipal guidelines for any changes. But both the state and the city have taken a more cautious approach than many of our neighbors. Of course, as our meeting gets closer, these guidelines are likely to change. We will update again as needed.
