The CHLA/ABSC Board of Directors hosts a First Timers Reception annually to welcome new attendees/members. If this is your first time as our association member attending the conference (talk about baptism by fire...holy swarm of librarians!) please join us at 4:30 this afternoon in room 205B, which is just down from the registration area. Immediately following our wee mingling event is the opening of exhibits and official welcome reception. Bring a bag with you because swag abounds and it's nearly impossible to resist the notebooks, post-its, pens, jump drives, etc. Many exhibitors draw winners for some great prizes so be sure to bring your business cards too. The exhibitors are open and friendly and eager to meet each and every one of us so don't be shy! You don't have to be the one who makes collections decisions to talk to them about your library and their product.
Enjoy your evening and gear up for a full day tomorrow whether you're starting at 7am for a Sunrise Seminar or at 9am for the Plenary Session. It is at the Plenary that we will get our first sense of how big this conference really is and how powerful a huge room full of information professionals is. Soak it up and enjoy.
