Avraham Reis Travel Grant for 2016 IFLA Meeting

The Avraham Reis ICS IFLA Annual Meeting Grant celebrates the memory of longtime ICS member Tovah Reis’s husband Avraham. The Reis ICS IFLA Grant recognizes a health sciences librarian and ICS member who is involved in international librarianship. The recipient receives a grant for $500 to be used for travel and conference-related expenses for attending international IFLA World Library and Information Congress.

This year, the IFLA World Congress takes place in Columbus, Ohio. Priority will therefore be given to ICS members who are not US citizens.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicant must be an individual member of MLA and the International Cooperation Section.
  • Applicant must be currently employed as a health sciences or medical librarian and have an interest in international librarianship or in international cooperation.
  • Preferred that applicant have between two and five years experience as a health sciences librarian at the time of the annual meeting.
  • Applicant must complete an application form including a 200-word statement answering the question, "Why are you interested in international librarianship and international cooperation?” and “What do you expect to gain professionally and/or personally by attending the IFLA World Library and Information Congress?"

 Priority consideration criteria (desired, not required):

  • Applicant is a first time attendee at an IFLA World Library and Information Congress.
  • Applicant is presenting (or has submitted) a paper or a poster at the IFLA annual meeting.

 TERMS

  • Winners will be reimbursed up to $500.00 in actual travel and conference-related expenses after the conference; proof of attendance must be submitted to ICS. A person may receive this award only once. Applications must be received by June 10.

  • If no candidate is determined eligible, no award will be given.
  • No letters of reference are requested or desired.
  • The essay and information will be distributed to the Reis ICS IFLA Annual Meeting Grant Jury, which will make selections.
  • Awardee must write a post-conference report including lessons learned for posting to the ICS web site and ICS archive.
