Are You a New Librarian? Submit an abstract for MLA | SLA ‘23

The 2023 National Program Committee invites colleagues who are newer to the profession to submit a poster or lightning talk abstract for MLA | SLA ‘23.

Hearing from new and diverse voices will enhance the conference experience and benefit our profession. Presenting at MLA | SLA ‘23 is a good career step because you gain experience, demonstrate professional growth and dedication, and enhance connections to your colleagues.

MLA and SLA support librarians who are submitting for the first time in several ways.

  • See the Submission FAQs. There’s a section dedicated to “How To” questions and answers to help you get started.
  • If you have questions about submission criteria or the review process, you can reach out to the working group responsible for reviewing the entries:

The deadline to submit a poster or lightning talk proposal is January 26.

More information about Round 2 submissions:

    Lightning Talks

  • Lighting Talks are limited to five minutes.
  • New for 2023, Lightning Talk presenters will participate in live-streamed virtual sessions (not at the in-person meeting). Presenters will have the opportunity to take and answer questions during and after the virtual session.
  • Presenters are also asked to make a recording of their Lightning Talk for on-demand access.

    Posters

  • Posters are highly visual presentations.
  • Same as in 2022, accepted poster presenters can either decide to be virtual/on-demand or in person.
  • Presenters will record their presentation for on-demand access.
  • In-person Poster presenters will be asked to participate in a poster session at the in-person conference where they can answer questions.

MLA and SLA member presenters who will be attending MLA | SLA ’23 in person in Detroit may be eligible for a $75 in-person registration discount. (See here for eligibility details).

Remember that everyone who’s ever presented at an MLA meeting has had a “first” time submitting a proposal. We’re here to support you if you need it-- and we’re excited to hear from you!
