Join the annual NLM Lindberg-King Lecture & Scientific Symposium on Thursday, September 1, 2022. This all-day, free, virtual event – Science, Society and the Legacy of Donald A.B. Lindberg, M.D. – will be in honor of Dr. Lindberg, former NLM director, who passed away in August 2019. MLA President Shannon D. Jones, AHIP, will be speaking at this event.
This day-long, virtual event, co-sponsored by the NLM and Friends of the National Library of Medicine, will bring together a diverse group of speakers from various academic and professional institutions and will explore a range of topics such as bioinformatics, precision medicine, computing, and library management.
This symposium will be live streamed via NIH Videocast. The Lindberg-King Lecture will be delivered by Isaac Kohane, M.D., Ph.D., Marion V. Nelson Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Harvard Medical School. The title of Dr. Kohane's lecture will be “Who will be the primary purveyor of authoritative medical knowledge to the U.S. patient?” The Lindberg-King Lecture honors the legacy and contributions of former NLM Director, Donald A.B. Lindberg, MD, and former NLM Deputy Director for Research and Education, Donald West King, MD.
The symposium, of which Dr. Kohane’s lecture is a part, will discuss the impact of Dr. Lindberg's leadership on the advancement of science through research training with emphasis on medical informatics, and the evolution of the library as a research partner, focusing on the evolution and expansion of access to knowledge, data, and research tools.
