Research Training Institute (RTI) 2025: Why Should I Apply?

Applications are Now Open for the 2025-26 Research Training Institute (RTI). Since 2018, the RTI’s unique and highly successful program has trained, mentored, and supported 156 participants, including 8 international librarians and 25 LIS graduate students.

But don’t take it from us. In the words of some of our RTI Fellows:

  • “The Research Training Institute is, hands down, one of the best professional development opportunities that I have participated in.”
  • “Participating in the RTI has been like getting a mini-PhD. I feel more confident undertaking my own research projects as a result.”
  • “The RTI/MLA fellowship program instilled in me the confidence to conduct librarian-led research that I would have otherwise felt I was not equipped to do. It’s provided me with the resources and mentorship needed for me to pursue some really awesome research projects.”

Non-members are also encouraged to apply! Share the news with your colleagues who may be interested in developing their research skills. Non-members can create a free registered user account to apply.

RTI also offers numerous scholarship opportunities to MLA members to help cover the cost of the program. Nonmembers are encouraged to explore membership options to gain access to scholarships and other member benefits.

The application period runs from November 13, 2024 – February 18, 2025. See MLANET for more details such as eligibility, scholarships, and preparing your application.
