New Name, Clearer Mission: The Health Equity & Global Health Domain Hub
Hello MLA members! We are very happy to reintroduce ourselves as the Health Equity & Global Health Domain Hub. While the change may seem subtle—flipping what comes before and after “and”—we felt it was an important and necessary change. Many current and new caucuses within MLA undertake research and projects with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion, and our hub wants to make sure there is a space for intercaucus communication and brainstorming in these areas.
We challenge the notion that we can lead change for equitable global health without working to realize health equity within North America. Our domain hub changed our name to ensure that while we recognize the need for wealthier nations to nurture and support health information equity and professionals around the world, we need to do so with an understanding of how we ourselves are succeeding or failing to provide equitable access to health information and care. Our domain hub is open to all caucuses, and our work is for all MLA members who are interested in the intersection of health, information, and equity.
Our vision statement for the domain hub remains the same:
The Health Equity & Global Health Domain Hub fosters organizational and professional partnerships to improve the development, access, dissemination, and understanding of health information for and by diverse populations in the United States and globally to improve the health of populations.
This year, the Health Equity & Global Health Hub is focused on proposing an MLA ‘22 immersion session centered on One Health topics. If accepted, we hope MLA members will discuss and investigate topics that recognize the intertwined nature of human, animal, and environmental health. Our second major project is the development and presentation of a webinar from former Cunningham Fellows to highlight the purpose and outcomes of the international fellowship award.
We hope to see you at one of our events, or as a new delegate, soon!
