National Medical Librarian Month Impact Story: Bette Bissonnette
Submitted by: Bette Bissonnette
Working behind the scenes, it’s easy to be overlooked, but health information professionals play a pivotal role in healthcare, research, and education. Collaborating with medical librarians directly influences the quality of patient care and the advancement of medical knowledge.
This week we have a story from Bette Bissonnette.
During my very first week as a medical librarian at a small community hospital, a Gastroenterologist asked me to find some information on a certain condition. At that time, I did not even know what PubMed was. I did a very quick PubMed education and gave him what I found. A few weeks later he stopped me in the hallway and thanked me for the information. He said it helped him make a decision in a very difficult case.
In honor of National Medical Librarian’s Month we will share stories about how the work you do has made an impact.
