Hospital Library Caucus Leadership Update and MLA ’25 Recap

Submitted by: Carlos Fernandez

In May 1, 2025, CeCe Railey officially transferred the leadership responsibilities to the new Hospital Library Caucus Chair, Tracy Soto.

They transferred leadership roles in grand style in the MLA ’25 Committee’s photo booth (in the photo from left to right: Tracy Soto, CeCe Railey)!

It has been an absolute pleasure to serve this caucus and to continue assisting in its course forward. As the plaque says in the photo, we are a dream team! A group of hospital librarians, some of whom are EVERYTHING for their hospitals and libraries (tech support, ILL, collection development, billing, reference, and everything in between), that are dedicated and love what they do. We maintained ongoing collaborations with the Collection Development Caucus prior to MLA ’25, and additionally co-sponsored an immersion session at MLA ’25. The session focused on a significant aspect of hospital librarianship, namely “Transformative Agreements,” which delve into the realm of scholarly publishing.

Serving as the Chair of HLC has been a profoundly enlightening experience, and I am greatly honored to have contributed to sustaining its progress. Although opportunities for group photographs at MLA ’25 were limited, please make sure you review all the images in the Hospital Library member album.

I was so excited to meet members of the HLC board while attending MLA for the first time. What a great way to build a bridge from my year as Chair-Elect to my new role as Chair of this amazing caucus!

I want to send a special note of thanks to both CeCe Railey and Basia Delawska-Elliott for their mentorship, support, and encouragement. I hope to follow in their footsteps and do everything I can to reliably serve HLC in the year to come.
