Each section's founding date, purpose, and dues are listed below. MLA members may join additional sections by using the Membership Application Form.
Established 1988
This section provides a platform for interaction
and communication between medical librarians and professionals in the
information and computer sciences who work on projects of mutual interest.

Established 1973
This section promotes association
interests related to education for health sciences library service.
Members include teachers of health sciences librarianship and
related subjects in library schools, continuing education contexts,
and other formal and on-the-job settings, as well as those interested
in the education of the health sciences librarian from other points
of view. ($7.50)

Established 1962
This section encourages and promotes within the health sciences library
community the development of nursing and allied health resources by cooperating
with other health care organizations, encouraging cooperation among nursing
and allied health librarians, promoting professionalism by sponsoring
educational programs, and encouraging more effective library usage among
nursing and allied health personnel. ($10.00)

Established 1948 as Pharmacy Library Group; name changed to Pharmacy and Drug Information Section in 1980
This section promotes investigation and dissemination of knowledge
in the areas of drug information and pharmacy librarianship. ($15.00)

Established 1974
This section fosters public health and health administration libraries;
promotes the educational, scientific, and professional growth of public
health and administration librarians and information specialists; provides
a forum for the exchange of information relating to public health and
health administration; and represents these interests within the association.

Established 1984 as Reference Services Section
This section fosters communication, education, and professional
growth and development among individuals who provide reference,
information, literature search, and instructional services in health
sciences libraries. ($10.00)

This section promotes the educational, scientific, and professional
growth of its members, with emphasis on social issues. The section's
primary concern is with social issues that have an impact on how
medical librarians perform their roles. ($7.00)

Established 1982 as Library Research Section
This section fosters research-related skills of individual health sciences
librarians; promotes interest in research among MLA members to further
the knowledgebase of the discipline and that of the medical and health
sciences library profession at large through program development consistent
with the goals of the association and in concert with other association
groups and committees; and serves as an action group for the advancement
of library research. ($12.00)

This section provides its members with opportunities for education,
recognition, and exchange of information; supports the development
and maintenance of information systems and resources; supports research
in technical services; and provides leadership in technical services
issues. ($10.00)

This section stimulates and fosters interest in veterinary medical libraries
and librarianship, acquaints persons interested in veterinary medical
libraries and librarianship with the association, encourages development
of and cooperation among veterinary medical libraries, and fosters a forum
for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of mutual problems and concerns.
