Module 9: Searching for Drug Information

Drug Inserts
(NOTE: Links open new windows)

It is possible to find the kind of drug insert information that is included in the PDR. Individual drug companies frequently provide these package inserts on their Websites. As an example, take a look at Pfizer's Web page. Notice that drugs like Zoloft and Viagra have information geared primarily for consumers, but they also include sections for the prescribing physician that include full prescribing information for the drug. Drug companies may not be unbiased, but they can be the best resource for information regarding THEIR specific product.

Exercises:
  1. Go to MedlinePlus. Use the "Drug Information" section to find the fact sheets on Glucophage.
  2. Go to the Bristol-Myers-Squibb Website (http://www.bms.com/) . Under products, locate Glucophage. Do they have the "prescribing information" available?
