- Primary resource
- A book or article that presents a medical "first" or is frequently discussed because of its historical importance. For example, Darwin's "Origin of the Species" would be a primary resource in the history of human development.
- Secondary resource
- A book or article written ABOUT a primary resource or that examines a number of primary sources to discuss a particular topic. For example, "Red Gold: The Epic Story of Blood" is a secondary resource about the history of blood and blood transfusion.
