| National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL) |
Provided by the National Center for Education Statistics, the NAAL seeks to: Describe the status of adult literacy in the United States; Report on national trends and identify relationships between literacy and selected characteristics of adults.
NAAL defines literacy as: “using printed and written information to function in society, to achieve one’s goals, and to develop one’s knowledge and potential.” |
| National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) |
Working on the premise that “Literacy is a legacy that can be passed from parent to child. But the barriers associated with low literacy—poverty, unemployment, low self-esteem, school failure—are also handed down from generation to generation”, the NCFL provides training and resources to support growth and development of family literacy programs primarily in the United States. |
