MLA Health Information Literacy Research Project
HIL Research Project Hospital Library Pilot Sites Announced
The following hospital libraries have been selected to pilot a new health information literacy (HIL) curriculum designed to increase health care providers' knowledge of HIL issues, increase patient and provider use of National Library of Medicine (NLM) and other consumer resources, and promote the role of librarians as key providers of HIL resources and support. The curriculum is being developed as part of MLA's Health Information Literacy Research Project, which is studying hospital-based health care providers' and administrators' awareness and understanding of health information literacy and its value in support of patient care. The project is being funded under a contract with NLM.
The pilot hospital libraries are:

- Billings Clinic, Medical Library, Billings, MT;
- Good Samaritan Hospital, Medical Library, Los Angeles, CA;
- Lake Hospital System, Medical Library, Painesville, OH;
- Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region, Health Sciences Library, Regina, SK, Canada;
- St. Joseph Hospital, Burlew Medical Library, Orange, CA;
- St. Vincent Hospital, Garceau Library, Indianapolis, IN;
- Stormont-Vail Healthcare, Stauffer Health Sciences Library, Topeka, KS; and
- University of South Alabama Medical Center Library-Mobile.
