|
| FDA Drug Approvals List |
www.fda.gov/cder/da/da.htm
This site is probably one of the first a medical librarian should check. Organization is by year and month. An internal FDA search function is at the bottom of the page. |
| FDA Drug Information |
www.fda.gov/cder/drug.htm
This site is the main FDA drug information site where drug news, approved drug products, consumer drug information and other information or reports can be viewed. The Approved Drug Products link on this page will take the user to the "Electronic Orange Book" whereby several search mechanisms are available (e.g., Search by Active Ingredient or Applicant Holder). |
| Doctor's Guide to New Drugs or Indications |
www.pslgroup.com/newdrugs.htm
This site is excellent. Information ranges from very detailed data to news-type clippings. Links to the drug manufacturers are often provided. |
| Listing of Newly Approved Drug Therapies by CenterWatch |
www.centerwatch.com, click on
New FDA Approvals
This is a relatively good site, but the updates for the current year are sometimes sporadic. New drugs are indexed by physiological system (e.g., a new drug for arrhythmias would be indexed under cardiovascular). |

Although the incidence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) has declined in the past decade, the death toll is increasing. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates 36,000–242,000 people are infected each year in the United States; of these, less than 30% have symptoms. Millions who were infected years earlier are just now feeling the effects of the virus. The FDA’s recent approval of a home test for hepatitis C and criticism regarding the government’s slow notification of infection program has raised the profile of this disease.
