What is the business of your health care organization, and how can you make your library an integral part of it? What have other librarians done to participate in their organizations' business objectives? This course is intended for librarians in hospitals or other nonacademic health care organizations. Participants will learn what is meant by the business of an organization and how they can learn more about their own organizations, and will hear real-life examples of how other librarians have stepped outside of traditional library roles. Participants will complete the course with action items to implement in their own organizations.

Kristen Rogers DeSanto, AHIP is the manager of the Clinical and Research Library at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO. In this role, she participates in hospital-wide initiatives such as the Nursing Research Council, Clinical Policy and Procedure Committee, and Target Zero, which aims to eliminate preventable harm for hospitalized patients. She recently succeeded in getting an increase in staffing for her library. Prior to becoming a medical librarian, DeSanto worked for over ten years as a hospital dietitian, primarily in the critical care setting. She has a master's of science in library science from the University of North Texas, a master's of science in nutrition from Texas Woman's University, and a bachelor's of arts in communications from Austin College. She is a provisional member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) and is a member of MLA, the Colorado Council of Medical Librarians (CCML), the Midcontinental Chapter of MLA, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
