MLA ’18 Open Forums

Sunday, May 20, 4:30 p.m.–5:25 p.m.

MLA open forums are an opportunity for face-to-face dialog on issues of importance to MLA and its members. This year’s topics are:

MLA Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Goal

International Ballroom North (International Tower, Ballroom Level)
Sponsored by the MLA Diversity and Inclusion Task Force

Join us for a dialog on how to improve MLA practices as they relate to diversity and inclusion in MLA. The Diversity and Inclusion Task Force was established in June 2017 for a period of three years.

Six boards will be placed in the registration area starting Saturday for attendees to contribute their thoughts in areas such as what D&I means to you, are you satisfied with the level of D&I in various MLA programs, what is the best way to achieve D&I in MLA committee appointments, how can MLA gather D&I data, what are ways to make MLA scholarships more D&I, and how does length of service at MLA relate to D&I.

MLA Communities Strategic Goal

Embassy C (International Tower, Exhibit Level)
Sponsored by the MLA Communities Strategic Goal Task Force

Join us for discussion on the latest ideas on how to strengthen MLA’s communities (sections and special interest groups [SIGs]). The Communities Strategic Task Force will share the outcomes of the discussions with member communities since MLA ’17 and lay out the vision for transformation as it enters its third and final year.

MLA InSight Initiative Summit 1 Outcomes

International Ballroom South (International Tower, Ballroom Level)
Sponsored by the MLA InSight Initiative Summit 1 Program Committee

Join us for a recap of the outcomes of the March 2018 meeting that brought together librarians, partner organizations, and experts on the theme of “Engaging Users in a Disruptive Era.” Organizers will answer questions on the four main topics of the summit: leveraging specialized discovery tools to maximize user engagement, security and the future of IP authentication, lessons learned from pirate sites, and imagining the ideal social networking site for collaboration and sharing.

We encourage vendors to participate in the InSight Initiative open forum.
