The North Atlantic Health Science Libraries (NAHSL) chapter of MLA is excited to be “Blazing the Trail” with a new conference format. On October 20, 2017, NAHSL will hold the first of its one-day conferences in its new alternating one-day and three-day conference format cycle. In alternating years, NAHSL’s annual conference will be a single day (odd years, starting in 2017) or the full two-day, plus a continuing education (CE) day, conference format (even years).
After much debate and discussion among the NAHSL board, this new conference approach was determined to offer an efficient and inclusive alternative to the traditional yearly, full conference, while being mindful of budgets and membership size, and still meeting the membership’s networking and educational needs. The new format has not hindered the conference planning committee from putting together an exciting and innovative day of content that is sure to not disappoint.
The theme of the 2017 NAHSL conference is “Blazing the Trail,” and NAHSL invites any and all to join us as we Blaze the Trail with an exciting program. The morning will be led off by Melissa Shaffer with her talk, “Developing an Understanding of Librarian 3.0.” All attendees will then be able to choose a breakout session, one geared toward hospital librarians and one geared toward academic librarians. These breakout sessions will be facilitated group discussions on the information and ideas that Shaffer presented. The keynote speaker for the conference is Patricia Brennan, director of the National Library of Medicine. Throughout the day, NAHSL members will have the opportunity to present their own work and highlight some of the amazing ways individuals and institutions are Blazing the Trail throughout New England. The call for proposals is currently underway.
NAHSL invites all to attend on October 20, 2017, at the Conference Center at Waltham Woods in Waltham, Massachusetts. For more information about the conference, please visit NAHSL 2017 site or contact Martha Meacham, conference chair. We hope to see you there!
