To top of page MLA Candidates Announced for 2008/09 MLA Election

The Medical Library Association (MLA) is pleased to announce the slate for the upcoming 2008/09 MLA election. The MLA Nominating Committee, chaired by MLA Past-President M. J. Tooey, AHIP, has presented the following candidates for president-elect, Board of Directors, and Nominating Committee positions. Those elected will begin their terms following MLA '08 in Chicago, IL. MLA members will cast their electronic ballots from November 6-December 11, 2007, and results will be announced in December. Paper ballots will be mailed to members without email addresses on file at MLA headquarters.


The candidates for 2008/09 president-elect are:

  • Gary D. Byrd, AHIP, director, Health Sciences Library, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, New York
  • Connie Schardt, AHIP, associate director for public services, Medical Center Library, Duke University, Durham, NC

The candidates for the three available MLA Board of Directors positions are:

  • Jane Blumenthal, AHIP, director, Taubman Medical Libraries, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
  • Patricia E. Gallagher, AHIP, acting head of public services, Library, New York Academy of Medicine-New York
  • Patricia C. Higginbottom, AHIP, associate director for public services, Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences, University of Alabama-Birmingham
  • Julia Kochi, director of digital library and collections, Library & Center for Knowledge Management, University of California-San Francisco
  • Beverly Murphy, AHIP, assistant director, Marketing And Publications, Duke University Medical Center Library, Durham, NC
  • Mary Fran Prottsman, AHIP, assistant director, Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Library and Information Resource Center, Carolinas Healthcare System, Charlotte, NC
