The MLA teleconference, "The Art and Practice of Electronic Journal, Book,
and Database Licenses," was held September 22, 2004. Enhance your knowledge
and get practical tips for dealing with licensing agreements.
In 1998, MLA's Continuing Education Committee launched a year of distance learning
opportunities about evidence-based health care (EBHC). View programs from Evidence-based
Health Care in Action that continue to be available.
The MLA teleconference, "Get HIP to HIPAA: Health Information Professionals
and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act," was held
March 12, 2003. Get an overview of HIPAA rules and pending compliance dates,
the impact of regulations on library services, and the role of the health information
professional in promoting HIPAA education and compliance.
The MLA Webcast, "Keeping Patients Safe: Roles for Information Professionals,"
was held November 16, 2005. This program will enhance knowledge about patient
safety, competencies, and the skill sets needed to equip information professionals
to successfully participate in patient safety initiatives in the health care
setting and their communities.
The goal of this program, which was held November 8, 2006, is to expose information
professionals to new and emerging technologies and to encourage the use of these
technologies in information management.

This MLA teleconference was held March 9, 2005. The goals of this program are
to enhance knowledge of and encourage participation in providing information
about public health by health sciences librarians.
The MLA teleconference, "Reading Between the Lines: Focusing on Health
Information Literacy," was held September 10, 2003. Learn about the broad
range of topics, issues, and people involved in health information literacy;
examine roles librarians might play; identify partners for collaboration; and
get resources about health literacy.
This program will give attendees an overview of the basic concepts of expert
searching, explore the issues involved in developing and retaining expert skills,
and promote expert search services as an important means of institutional support.
The program will introduce significant models of scholarly publishing and explore
the impact of open access on libraries and authors. The Webcast was held November
20, 2007.
The MLA Webcast was held March 7, 2007, and will help you successfully execute
marketing tools, such as advertising, promotion, and communications. It examines
communications and assessment strategies that information professionals can
use to secure a firm position for libraries in their organization.
In 2002, MLA presented this teleconference designed to help librarians promote
this technology for health care professionals; highlight currently available
handheld devices, software, and peripherals; provide a framework for designing
educational sessions, including specific "how-to" information; and
demonstrate innovative programs that illustrate the potential of handheld technology
for physicians and allied health professionals.
This Webcast was held January 26, 2005. It will provide particpants with useful
tips for negotiating electronic licensing agreements and will include tips about
multisite licenses, number of users, fair use, performance standard clauses,
post-termination access, archival rights, and more.
