Rebirth of Atlanta: The Rising Phoenix

“Atlanta from the Ashes” statue by Denisbin (CC BY-ND 2.0)

Long before the bronze statue of “Atlanta from the Ashes,” which depicts a woman raising up a bird from the ashes was placed in Woodruff Park, Atlanta has associated itself with the mystical bird of Egyptian times.  The Phoenix is even a part of the city’s official seal.

As Atlanta began to rebuild from the Civil War and Sherman’s Savannah Campaign, better known as the “March to the Sea,” the city too has arisen from the ashes to become an international city and the “capital city of the Southeast.”

We hope you will come to our great city in 2018 and experience its rich history and diversity.
