Check Out Toronto’s Amazing Diversity Of Libraries!

Toronto’s mosaic is represented in the variety of neighbourhoods, restaurants, and cultural events it houses and the diversity of its libraries is no exception. To celebrate, the Local Assistance Committee has arranged several exclusive library tours just for Mosaic '16 attendees. 

Library tours are free and signup on a first come basis. Most tours are capped at 15-20 however Gerstien Science Information Centre and Archives of Ontario can accommodate 30.

Here are a few of our featured libraries: 

Bridgepoint Health Clinical Library 

Bridgepoint Health Clinical Library concentrates on complex continuing care (CCC) in areas of palliative care, dialysis, neuromuscular and neurological support, cognitive support; also focuses on complex rehabilitation in the areas of musculoskeletal, neurology, medicine. Physical collection consists of approximately 500 books, journals, videos and reports. Online subscriptions include research databases, full -text journals and reference materials.

Toronto Reference Library 

The 38,691 m² (416,035 sq. ft.) five-storey building, designed by architect Raymond Moriyama, opened in 1977 and is the biggest public reference library in Canada. The library has many special collections and this tour will focus on Science and Medicine.

 The Lillian H. Smith Library

The history of the Lillian H. Smith branch begins long before the current building was built. Named in honour of one of the pioneers of children's librarianship, the library houses both the Merril Collection of Speculative Fiction and the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Literature. Besides these two renowned reference collections, it continues to offer a very popular circulating collection of both children's and adult books and a wide range of dynamic programming for people of all ages.
