Level: Intermediate Instructor(s): Diane K. Kovacs, Web Teacher, Kovacs Consulting Internet and Web Training, Brunswick, OH Offered: Saturday, May 19, 8:00 a.m.5:00 p.m. |
In-class lecture, discussion, and group practice with web-based learning activities will focus on the process of e-library collection development planning. Participants will focus on developing a collection plan for one library patron group that participants chose for the kinds of libraries they work in. After class, if participants wish additional continuing education, they will be able to draft an e-library collection development plan with free and fee-based, web-accessible resources for a patron community of their choice. This collection plan will be developed in four phases: collection plan abstract or introduction, collection strategy, collection organization plan, and collection maintenance plan. The class will use examples of well-planned and well-designed e-libraries on the web to illustrate each phase. The learning objectives are: Participants will develop selection criteria and plan for collection, evaluation, organization, and maintenance of an e-library collection for a patron group of their choice in the kind of library they choose. Participants will have begun identifying, evaluating, selecting, and collecting appropriate free and fee-based, web-accessible resources for a subject or patron group they wish to develop and will end the session with a completed collection development plan for the subject or patron group. Participants may continue working on their own individual e-library collection development policies on the Teacher's Moodle after the class meeting. Note: Web-based portion of course to follow. Participants will receive 20 MLA CE contact hours if they participate in both.
