MLA '11 Annual Meeting Twitter Exercise

Step 3: Searching and using hashtag #mlanet11

Have a Question?

Email mlanet11@gmail.com

Help will only be provided April 25–29, 2011.

A hashtag is a user-driven convention for connecting a conversation on Twitter. The official hashtage for the conference is #mlanet11. When you search this hashtag in twitter you will find all the tweets from users who add this to their post. It's a great way to discover tweets from users even if you do not follow them. Adding a hashtag to your tweet lets you participate in the conversation and can be used anywhere in a post.

Search for the hashtag #mlanet11.
#mlanet11

Notice the conversation and users who tweeted them.  Hint:  Searching a hashtag is a great way to find people with similar interests.  Is there anyone that has tweeted that you would like to follow?  If so, just click on their username and click Follow.

Participate in the conversation! Post 3 tweets by considering any of the following questions provided by T Scott Plutchak, Janet Doe lecturer. Remember to use the hashtag #mlanet11 somewhere in the post.

  • What is the primary role of librarians in the digital age?
  • Does being a librarian mean you work in a library?
  • Does “collection development” mean anything when almost everything is electronic?
  • When did “The Great Age of Libraries” end?
  • What can librarians contribute to data curation?
  • What “Big New Thing” should librarians be taking on?
  • What should librarians stop doing?
