MLA '07: Colleague Connection

A large professional meeting can overwhelm even the most intrepid and organized attendee. Providing opportunities to meet new colleagues, build a professional network, discuss new ideas, and maximize your time in Philadelphia, Colleague Connection pairs newer members or first-time meeting attendees with returning, more experienced members during MLA ’07.

Do you need help analyzing the program and choosing which programs to attend? Do you want to know which social events have free food, drink, and entertainment? Do you need a friendly and familiar face to introduce you to other members? Are you curious about what a specific MLA chapter, section, special interest group, or committee can do for you? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, participate in Colleague Connection!

Not just for first-time attendees anymore, MLA has expanded Colleague Connection to include anyone who wants advice on negotiating the MLA annual meeting. Experienced members can benefit from Colleague Connection, too! Mentoring a colleague during the meeting can expand your professional network, expose you to new ideas, and help you see the meeting from a fresh perspective. In addition, you will get the satisfaction of helping someone, and there’s no greater reward than that! Last year, over fifty-seven connections were made.

Please sign up at libweb.lib.buffalo.edu/hsl/cc.asp. Those who register by Sunday, May 1, 2007, will be guaranteed to receive their mentor or mentee before leaving for MLA ’07. After May 1, sign up in person at the meeting. If you have questions, email Beverly Bradley. Indicate whether you want to be paired with an experienced member or want to help a new colleague.

Once assigned, each pair of colleagues works out its own meeting schedule. Contacts made through Colleague Connection can lead to lifelong friendships with peers and enlarge your professional network. Sign up for Colleague Connection today!
