Coordinated Programs or Peer-to-Peer:
Which is the Better Model for International Cooperation Between Libraries?
A Debate. |
Invited Speaker |
THEME: LEADERSHIP
AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: There are two basic schools
of thought about how best to set up collaborative relationships between
libraries in the North and those in the South. On the one hand there
are coordinated programs involving a certain amount of setting up
and managing. At the other end of the continuum there are very many
small-scale, peer-to-peer arrangements—mostly of the “sister
library” type. The session takes the form of a formal debate
on the question This house believes that time spent coordinating is
seldom wasted, and two invited speakers from different backgrounds
will speak to each side of the question. The motion will then be thrown
open to general debate from the floor, allowing delegates to express
opinions and share experience before the session concludes with a
vote.
