Although this is an introductory course, those
who are interested in evidence-based practice could also benefit
from working with the material. Often evidence-based teaching and
learning relies on studying various categories of health care research
such as therapy, diagnosis, and economics-emphasizing the differences
across the categories. Librarians, as teachers, place little emphasis
on the aspects of the health care literature that are common to
all categories of clinical research. This workshop looks at twelve
topics or issues and shows why each is important and how it contributes
to understanding the importance and applicability of the clinical
content of a study. It also shows participants how to find the information
easily and effectively (e.g., the question is almost always the
first sentence before a "Methods" section and patient
age and gender are found in Table 1).
