This course will show participants the benefits
to their careers and their profession of doing research. Participants
will acquaint themselves with the research process: framing the
hypothesis or question, designing the study, acquiring the means
to collect data, collecting and analyzing data, publishing, and
evaluating. Using lecture, examples from the instructor's experience,
and case studies of library research, participants will review available
resources (funding, release time, mentors, instruments, etc.) and
discuss methods for overcoming their own obstacles (skill deficits,
time management issues, motivation fatigue, etc.), with the ultimate
goal of becoming researchers themselves.
