CE 301
The Changing Nature of Providing Reference/Information Services

Level: Intermediate
Prerequisite: At least 2 years' professional experience
Cost: $210 (nonmember, $260)
Attendance Maximum: 20

Instructor(s): Carol Scherrer, AHIP, head, Information Services and Lisa Wallis, AHIP, information services librarian; Library of the Health Sciences, University of Illinois-Chicago

Offered: Friday, May 19, 8:00 a.m.–Noon

This class is designed for reference or information services librarians who are aware that their roles are changing and want to effect that change in a creative and positive way. The goal of the class is for participants to manage change by doing a need assessment, reflecting on what roles they now fulfill, what roles they can discontinue, and what roles they need to expand. Participants will also brainstorm about other options available for improving service. By exploring new technologies available to libraries and changing patron behaviors, librarians will leave the class perceiving change as an opportunity for professional growth and improved service.
