Pharmacy and Drug Information Section

Goal 1. Professional Development

• The Pharmacy and Drug Information (PDI) Section organized the 1999 EMBASE lecture at the annual meeting in Chicago, IL. Mary L. Moody, Clinical Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago, gave an excellent presentation on new drug updates. This lecture is sponsored annually by Elsevier.
• The 2000 EMBASE speaker has been selected for the annual meeting in Vancouver, which will be Dr. Noel Buskard, Professor Of Medicine, University of British Columbia, speaking on photodynamic therapy.
• The standards for libraries that serve schools of pharmacy document was endorsed during the business meeting.
• The PDI Section also voted to contribute $250 for the Lucretia W. McClure MLA Excellence in Education Award.

Goal 2. Advocacy

• Jean Siebert, the membership committee chair, sent email welcome messages to the new members of the section. The current Chair, Bob Schrimsher, also sent welcome email messages. New members’ names will also be included in the spring newsletter.

Goal 3. Information Technology

• The PDI Web pages are being updated as necessary, e.g., both the spring and fall (99) newsletter were placed on the Website and useful links are constantly being added.
• The PDI email discussion list also has proved to be a useful tool for discussion on pharmacy issues and noteworthy news to the list members. List members are not restricted to PDI members, but is open for anyone who desires to join.
