Medical Library Education Section
Goal 1. Professional Development
- MLES is sponsoring the annual New Perspectives paper sessions
at the 2000 MLA Annual Meeting. This year’s program is "Dragons
Roar: New Perspectives". This paper sessions is presented
each year to give recent graduates and current students an opportunity
to present a paper at an annual meeting. This year seventeen abstracts
were reviewed for this paper session.
- MLES will be a cosponsor at two other paper sessions at the
2000 MLA Annual Meeting. One session is being done with Medical
Informatics, Public Health/Health Administration, and Public Services
Sections. This session is entitled "Life-Long Learning: Informatics
Competencies for the Health Practitioner". The second session
is being done with Public Services Section and is entitled "On
the Wings of the Dragon: Transforming Core Competencies into Practice".
Goal 2. Advocacy
- The 2000 Library School Reunion will be held during the annual
meeting. This session is held each year to give members a chance
to meet with library school faculty and colleagues that graduated
from the same library school. This reunion provides an opportunity
for establishing and maintaining a link between the graduates
and the library schools.
Goal 3. Organization
- The sections Website continues to expand to provide useful
information to members of the section, to students in library
schools interested in health librarianship, and MLA members interested
in medical library education.
