Dental Section
Goal 1. Professional Development
- The Dental Section will cosponsor (with Nursing and Allied Health
Resources) an invited speaker at the 2000 Annual Meeting in Vancouver,
BC, Canada. "Hedges/Filters for Evidence-based Literature"
by Ann McKibbon.
- The ad hoc committee for the Harriet Steuernagel Award is working
on refinement of the criteria and frequency of the award.
Goal 2. Advocacy
- The section membership project continues. Letters, including
promotional materials, have been sent to all dental libraries
that do not have a member in the section.
- Section members agreed to place the Dental and Dental Hygiene
standards on MLANET. Leah Krevit volunteered to take over further
work on updating the standards.
Goal 3. Organization
- A motion to change the secretary/treasurer's term of office
to 3 years was passed. This should allow more stability and require
fewer signature changes. Section bylaws will need to be changed.
Goal 4. Research 
- The Dental Section history is in progress. Information gathered
was submitted for the MLA time capsule.
Goal 5. National Information Policy
- The Governmental Relations Committee liaison has been active
in posting information from that committee and action alerts to
the email discussion list.
Goal 6. Information Technology
- The section newsletter is on the home page along with several
years of section minutes, program information and the list of
recommended books.
- Dentalib, the section email discussion list continues to actively
disseminate topical information.

This report is informational and requires no action by the Board
of Directors.
