Goal 3. Organization
MLA continually improves its operations, services, and responsiveness to members through the combined effort of its members and staff. The association…(d) develops, evaluates, and enhances programs and services responsive to members’ needs; and (e) fosters effective communication within the association…

The Publications Committee designed, distributed, and collected opinions on the MLA News via a survey mailed to a random sample of the individual members in January 2000. The survey consisted of fourteen questions on topics such as writing style, content, and timeliness. MLA Headquarters Staff mailed the survey to 380 individual members and 153 useable responses were returned. The committee will analyze the collected data and submit a written report.

Goal 6. Information Technology
MLA promotes the profession as a leader in the use of information technology. The association…(a) uses technology to improve communication among members and to enhance remote access to association services and programs;…(b) updates MLANET to incorporate the best practices in information technology to develop new services, e.g., electronic surveys, commentaries, etc.

The Chair of the Publications Committee contacted the Chair, MLANET Editorial Board to determine the interest in a MLANET survey. The MLANET Editorial Board is considering a survey which is currently under discussion.
