Goal 2: Advocacy

Objective: Promote MLA member involvement in the continuing education and professional development activities of other relevant professional associations, specifically the American Public Health Association (APHA), through the continued awarding of the Grace and Harold Sewell stipends for defraying the costs of attending the annual APHA conference.

Who, Expertise Needed: PH/HA continues to rely on the expertise of its members who are both APHA and MLA members to promote the stipends and serve on the Client Relations Committee. This committee governs the awarding of the funds.

Resources Required: No fundraising will be done for these activities. The Sewell stipends are privately funded.

Time Needed: This is an ongoing commitment.

Resources Required: No fundraising is projected for this activity.

Product Outcome: The end product will be a database organized under the subject areas utilized by the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) in accreditation reviews of schools and programs of public health. This will be useful for collection development, benchmarking, and guiding new public health libraries/librarians.

Evaluation: Feedback is provided to the Core Public Health Journals task force in person, via email, and through Web forms on the project Website. An initial version of the database was distributed to MEDLIB-L for comment and review in summer 2002.
