Dr. Noble, an esteemed internet studies scholar and Professor at UCLA, is renowned for her groundbreaking work at the intersection of race, gender, and technology. As the Faculty Director of the Center on Race & Digital Justice at UCLA and Co-Director of the Minderoo Initiative on Tech & Power, her research sheds light on the critical issues of algorithmic bias and discrimination in digital spaces.
Her best-selling book, Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism, has sparked important conversations about the ways in which commercial search engines perpetuate racist and sexist biases. Through her scholarship, Dr. Noble has become a leading voice advocating for greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the technology industry.
Dr. Noble's work has received widespread recognition, and she was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow in 2021 for her contributions to understanding and addressing algorithmic discrimination. In 2022, she was honored as the inaugural recipient of the NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Award.
Dr. Noble will be joining us in Portland for a moderated conversation about her work.
